Description
On this date in 1982 the compact disc play was introduced. Only in Japan at first (The US market didn’t get them until the next year) with a cost of nearly US$800. The claims of perfection weren’t exactly that, the sound could be glassy and brittle. But some did sound good (and while transfers have gotten much better) they are pretty decent if played on good equipment. Now in the age of streaming and downloading, CDs are passé in a way. And with rising LP sales (why?) the dominance of CDs has waned. But boy do I have a pile of ‘em!
