#otd in 1877, Thomas Edison unveils his new invention the phonograph. While there had been other ways of recording sounds, a Frenchman Edouard-Leon de Martinville, did a recording on paper in 1860. But Edison’s machine took off and shortly afterwards Emil Berliner developed the flat disc. (Streaming, SACD, mp3 came later…)
