Description
This is one of the most important photographs ever taken.
Bill Anders, one of the Apollo 8 astronauts (the others being Frank Borman and Jim Lovell) took this picture when the spacecraft came around from the back of the moon in December 1968. Sadly Anders died in a plane crash near the San Jaun Islands by Washington State. He was 90. This photograph was the inspiration of the nascent environmental movement and a balm for so many at the end of what had been one of the worst years in American history.
