MUST BE THE MUSIC
It was 1987 and the big debate around the country was the holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther king. The state of Arizona was one of the most vocal in its opposition. Celebrities from all forms of entertainment were boycotting anything that brought revenue to Arizona. Bono and U2 said "Fuck It" let's take the fight into the lion's den. Their hit song Pride (In The Name Of Love) was at the top of the charts. The thing was the 3rd verse was all about MLK JR. Of course a death threat was floating around, the band was told the moment Bono got to that verse they were going to blow his head off. The threat was so credible that the FBI got involved. Bono did the concert anyway and sang Pride. At the 3rd verse lead guitarist Adam Clayton stepped in front of his friend, willing to take that bullet. MUST BE THE MUSIC.
