Description REPARATIONS, A SNEAKER, THE CULTURE WARS AND WHY WE NEVER GET THE FULL STORY.
So tomorrow is the country's birthday, this last week the topic has been reparations and now it's about a sneaker. The thing is we never get the full story on what's going on. Take reparations, no group would turn down some free cash if the government decided to hand it out unless they were bat shit crazy. But this argument isn't about the cash but more about being disenfranchised. Most people have no idea that when the Continental Congress approached Washington about building an army an fighting the British he wanted 40,000 troops. Never happened he only raised 12,000 and of that number 5,000 were blacks over a third of his force. Some were free some were still bonded. But you don't hear about that number and it isn't taught in most history classes. It isn't mentioned that after the war was won, most of them were forced back into servitude. While their white counterparts received pensions and land grants , a law was passed making it illegal for blacks to sue for a pension. The ultimate fuckery after they were instrumental in bringing freedom to this country. The sad thing is they were not given full rights as Americans until my lifetime when the Voting Rights Act and Civil Rights Act were passed. It's about being recognized for your blood and sweat, people should be angry that a bunch of drunk hillbillies have bastardized one of our symbols and Kaepernick just pointed it out.
