Summary: Shahryah was the ruler of a desert kingdom. One day he came home to his palace and caught his wife having sex with a slave. He was enraged and had her put to death. Her betrayal pushed him over the edge and he felt that no woman could ever be trusted. However, he still enjoyed sex, so he would marry a virgin and the next day after his wedding night he would have his bride put to death. This continued until there was hardly any virgins left in his kingdom. Scheherazade was the vizer's daughter and she feared not only for herself but her younger sister if this barbaric thing was not put to end. So she against her father's wishes married Shahryah. After consummating their wedding, she began a story. But she refused to finish it before daybreak, her husband was so intrigued he allowed her to live to finish the next night. That night she finished her story but immediately began another that went unfinished. So she was allowed to live another day. She continued this for a thousand and one nights, until finally her husband changed his mind and spared her life.
